Homeland Stupidity

My wife went to renew her driver's license. In NJ you now need to provide several forms of personal identification so the state will 'know' you're not a terrorist. Nancy can't bring her birth certificate (because she has used my last name for the last 38 years) so she uses our marriage license. She has used this for identification for years, when needed.

This was rejected by the NJ motor vehicle bureau because it was signed by a justice of the peace and not an official city or state agent. She had to phone the county in Massachusetts, then write, get their copy of the license and go back to get her license. Why?? The logic escapes me.

Like all of us I want to prevent further attacks and am willing to put up with inconvenience to do this. But it seems we attack ourselves with stupidity and incompetence.
